Political Plot Twist: ADC ‘Landlord,’ Hon. Leke Abejide, ‘Evicted by His Tenants’ Following Expulsion
Hon. Leke Abejide, the formidable two-term member of the House of Representatives for Yagba Federal Constituency, has found himself at the centre of a dramatic political schism, culminating in a bizarre twist where the self-proclaimed “landlord” of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reportedly been “evicted by his tenants.”
Abejide, who stands as the only remaining legislator on the ADC platform, had anchored his political stature and recent pronouncements on his consecutive electoral victories, earning him the moniker of the party’s true ‘landlord.’
This claim, however, has been met with significant resistance from defectors and newly consolidated structures within the party, leading to an open conflict.
Sources close to the ongoing internal battle suggest that the root of the crisis lies in the manner in which Hon. Abejide has carried his influence.
Critics have pointed to what they term his “arrogance and toutish manner,” alleging that his conduct has alienated key party stakeholders and members.
Adding to the complexity is the legislator’s public and “unambiguous support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” which critics view as a stark contradiction to his commitment to the ADC.
This apparent “divided loyalty” has been cited as an unacceptable breach of party integrity in normal political circumstances.
The tension reached a tipping point with the recent unveiling of a reorganized ADC structure in the Kogi West Senatorial District, which encompasses Abejide’s constituency.
This re-establishment of the party hierarchy was immediately followed by the formal affirmation of his expulsion from the party.
The situation has been described as deeply comic and bizarre: the individual who single-handedly secured the party’s presence in the National Assembly through two election cycles—the very ‘landlord’—has been decisively chased away by the newly empowered elements, his ‘tenants.’
The dramatic expulsion transforms the legislator’s political future into a question mark and signals an interesting period of political realignment in Kogi State.
The days ahead are set to be compelling, as the ‘landlord’ and the ‘tenants’ navigate the aftermath of this intentional and highly public political divorce.
