YABO, Sokoto State — A wave of grief has swept across Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State following the tragic death of nine young men who reportedly lost their lives in a road accident while travelling to Lagos in search of better economic opportunities.

The victims, all natives of Yabo, were said to have embarked on the journey with hopes of securing jobs and improving the welfare of their families. Their dreams, however, were cut short by the fatal crash, leaving relatives, friends and the entire community devastated.

Confirming the incident, the member representing Yabo Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Shehu Shamaki Yabo, described the tragedy as a painful and irreplaceable loss.

In a condolence statement issued in Sokoto, the lawmaker expressed profound sorrow over the deaths, saying the victims had left home filled with hope and determination to build brighter futures.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of nine young men from Yabo. They departed with dreams of improving their lives and supporting their families, but sadly, fate had a different course. Their untimely passing is heartbreaking,” he said.

Hon. Shamaki noted that the loss extends beyond the immediate families of the deceased, describing it as a tragedy that has deeply affected Yabo Local Government Area and the entire Shagari/Yabo Federal Constituency.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the departed eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and to give their families the strength and fortitude to bear the painful loss.

The lawmaker also urged relevant authorities to strengthen road safety measures across the country while intensifying efforts to create sustainable employment opportunities for young people, particularly in northern Nigeria, to reduce the growing trend of risky migration in search of livelihoods.
Meanwhile, community leaders, religious scholars, friends and sympathisers have continued to pay tribute to the deceased, describing them as hardworking and ambitious youths whose lives were cut short at the prime of their years.

As condolences continue to pour in, residents of Yabo remain united in mourning, offering prayers for the victims and comfort for the bereaved families. As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to provide further details on the exact location and circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
