South West Development Commission bill passed, Kabo to get Police Service Commission Institute —DSP Barau

The Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin presided as six bills successfully scaled through their first reading, including the pivotal Police Service Commission Institute (Establishment) Bill for Kabo. Sponsored by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Malam-Madori (Jigawa East).
The bill aims to establish an institute in Kabo as part of efforts to enhance the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPC) for more effective policing across the country. The bill is expected to be listed for a second reading in the coming days.
In a significant development, the South West Development Commission (SWDC) Establishment Bill was passed following its third reading. The bill’s passage came after the presentation of the Senate Committee on Special Duties’ report, chaired by Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (APC, Borno).
The bill is designed to drive socioeconomic development in the South West geopolitical zone, addressing crucial infrastructural and ecological challenges in the region.
Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin praised the committee for its thorough work on the bill and emphasized the importance of the commission in tackling the region’s development needs.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the establishment of the North West and South East Development Commissions, expressing optimism that the President would soon assent to the South West Development Commission Bill.
With the proposed Police Service Commission Institute in Kabo and the passage of the South West Development Commission Bill, the Senate continues to prioritize initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s institutions and fostering regional development.
