TETFund Advances Tertiary Education Infrastructure with Lab Equipment Report, Mine-Tech UniPod Launch
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has taken two major steps to strengthen practical learning and innovation in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, with the presentation of a laboratory equipment report and the launch of the “Mine-Tech UniPod” initiative.
At TETFund headquarters in Abuja, Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono, FNIA, PhD, received the report of the Committee on the Equipping of Multipurpose Laboratories designed by the Fund.
The report was presented by Mr. Chris Mayaki, chairman of the committee.
The committee was tasked with assessing the design and equipping standards for multipurpose laboratories across beneficiary institutions.
The submission is expected to guide TETFund’s interventions aimed at improving hands-on training and research capacity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs.
In a separate engagement, Arc. Echono joined the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Sam Ode, at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, for the official launch of the innovative “Mine-Tech UniPod.”
The UniPod is a mobile, modular laboratory and training facility designed to expand access to practical skills in mining technology and related fields for students in tertiary institutions.
Speaking at the launch, Echono said the initiative aligns with TETFund’s mandate to enhance the quality of tertiary education through targeted interventions that address skills gaps and industry needs.
He noted that partnerships with state governments and institutions are critical to scaling such programs nationwide.
Dr. Ode commended TETFund for bringing the Mine-Tech UniPod to Nasarawa State University, saying it would provide students with practical exposure and improve graduate employability in the mining and geosciences sectors.
TETFund said the two developments form part of its broader strategy to modernize learning infrastructure and promote innovation-driven education in Nigeria’s tertiary sector.
