In his statement to commemorate millions of hardworking Nigerians, who are awarding quality time, putting their lives and energy to work for the best interest of organisations, government agencies and other decent works that improve national development.
Hon. Leke Abejide stated that the 10th House of Representatives under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has resolved towards strengthening the enforcement of existing safety and health laws for workers.
“As legislators, we understands that it is not enough to make laws; we must ensure that the laws must be upheld”.
We will continue to push for workers safety, health and promote legislation that protect and boost workers right through funding, monitoring and awareness campaigns that enlightens people on the importance of safety standards.
“We can build a Nigeria where safety standards remains the ultimate for workers and all work force”.
“A place where every Nigerian- have access to the best safety standards, health and protect workers right”.
We will legislate to build a future where safety is strongly held, in both private and government policy.
Therefore, continue to invest in education, trainings to expand the outreach of programs and advocate for safety into the national development agenda.
Hon. Leke stressed the need to support the safety of workers and charge everyone to sincerely nurture the spirit of volunteerism, service and work towards social and economic advancement in all sectors.
“We must also ensure the best safety practices to guarantee workers against hazards and accidents from their duties”.
“Workers day reminds us to look inwards and remember that every worker has the right to be protected under a condusive working environment. This has informed our decision not to hesitate on the welfare of officer of the Nigeria Customs Service before giving aproval for one hundred percent salary increase and improved welfare. During our oversight visit to Zone A and Zone C we discussed wages and rewards for outstanding officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and how best their welfare can be improved especially to tackle issues of accommodation through legislation and other reforms. We also ensure that the laws are respected and implemented”.
