YAGBA EAST BUSINESS TYCOON DECLARES INTENTION TO CONTEST STATE ASSEMBLY SEAT
The political landscape of Kogi State continues to gather momentum as the race for the forthcoming State Assembly election intensifies. Amid this growing anticipation, the people of Yagba East have received a fresh wave of optimism following the official declaration of ambition by Alhaji Maruf Salimonu, a respected businessman, philanthropist, and community advocate.
Alhaji Salimonu made his intention known during a courtesy visit to the palace of HRM Oba Lamidi Ayeni, the Elejuku of Ejuku kingdom, yagba East and to his political mentor, Alhaji Taofiq Isah, former ALGON Chairman and Director General of the Kogi State Utility and Infrastructure Management and Compliance Agency.
Renowned for his remarkable success in business and his deep passion for community service, Alhaji Salimonu has consistently demonstrated his commitment to empowering people. Over the years, he has championed job creation, supported educational initiatives, and contributed significantly to the welfare of widows, youths, and other vulnerable groups.

Speaking of his declaration, Alhaji Salimonu emphasized that his vision is anchored on effective and people-centered representation:
“I am stepping forward to serve because I believe in a future where every citizen of Yagba East State Constituency has equal access to opportunities, quality education, healthcare, and empowerment programs that can improve livelihoods. My success in business has given me the capacity and network to give back, and my philanthropic journey has given me the heart to serve. Now, I want to take this service to a higher platform.” Salmonu said.
He further expressed gratitude to his political father and mentor:
“I respect my political father, Alhaji Taofiq Isah. Since 2016, he has adopted me and mentored me to remain positive in life. This is the time to give back to society, and I cannot do it alone without the support of my people.” he added
HRM Oba Lamidi Ayeni, the Elejuku of Ejuku kingdom, yagba East welcomed him and urged him to play politics of all inclusivity.
Alhaji Taofiq Isah commended Salmonu’s desire . He wished him well in his future endeavour to go into politics to represent the people of his constituency.

Alhaji Maruf Salimonu passion for politics started from primary school in Oranre when he was appointed the A.U.D. Primary School Time-keeper, during his days in the University, he was the President of the National Association of Kogi state Student Union ( NAKOSS) Deputy Senate President ,NAKOSS and the P.R.O of okun Student Union NAOS.
He is a successful entrepreneur and sponsor of several community development initiatives, Alhaji Salimonu is married with children and hails from Yagba East in the Kogi West Senatorial District.
He was accompanied to the palace by his political icon, Hon Taufiq Issah, Special Adviser on local content, Hon Kamaldeen Toyin, Deputy Chief Imam, Kogi State Government House, Alfa Sikiru Ahmed, S.A media, Hon. Othman, Osese, Hon. Atitebi, Hon. Jubril Aminu, among other notable politicians.
