By Amuda Jimoh – Lokoja
A three-day-old youth protest in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State has been suspended following the intervention of Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District.
The protest, which began on Wednesday, was sparked by the gruesome murder of three policemen and two vigilantes by suspected bandits.
Despite being abroad, Senator Karimi remained in touch with security agencies, local leaders, and the community.
He issued a statement empathizing with the protesters and calling for calm, while reassuring them of efforts to address the security challenges.
The Senator directly communicated with the protest leaders, addressing them twice and assuring them that the security agents are working to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure lasting peace.
He urged the youths to disband the roadblocks, which they eventually did after meeting with their members to relay the outcome of the discussions.
Following the Senator’s intervention, the protesting youths disbanded the roadblocks on the highways, removed burning tires, and allowed the free movement of vehicles on the Ilorin-Egbe-Isanlu-Kabba road.
Commercial activities in the area have resumed, and people are back to their normal daily routines.
The leadership of the protest appreciated Senator Karimi for his efforts, noting his commitment to raising the voice of his people and ensuring their security.
The Senator has consistently demonstrated his dedication to the welfare and security of his constituents through his contributions on the Senate floor and oversight responsibilities.
