165 Medical Laboratory Scientists Inducted in Jos
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Faculty of Health and Technology, University of Jos, inducted 165 new Medical Laboratory Scientists at a ceremony held at the College of Health Sciences Multiple Purpose Hall, Lamingo.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya, congratulated the graduands, saying, “With your certificates, you can cross any ocean and climb any mountain.” He urged them to be good ambassadors of the University and to “Japa” (travel abroad) if opportunities arise, but not to forget their country.
Ishaya noted that Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, and Medicine are the top courses sought after by candidates seeking admission to the University. “You are lucky to be among those who secured admission and graduated,” he said.
Head of Department, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Prof. J.M. Banda, said the induction marked a landmark achievement for the Department, College, and University. “Laboratory technology is the backbone of modern medicine; without it, medicine is blind,” he said, urging the inductees to lead with integrity and serve with passion.
Dean of Health Sciences and Technology, Prof. James Garba Damen, called on the inductees to collaborate with other health sector unions, emphasizing that teamwork is key to success.
The Acting Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Council of Nigeria, Dr. Donald Ibe Ofili, represented by the Assistant Director Operations and Discipline, administered the oath and reminded the inductees of their professional responsibilities.
The event featured goodwill messages from various stakeholders, including the representative of the Plateau State Governor, Hon. Musa Ashom, who pledged government support for the University’s efforts to provide quality education.
The ceremony concluded with the graduands receiving their professional licenses and paying tribute to their parents and guardians.
