Abejide Denies Involvement in Kogi West APC Senate Primary Dispute
The office of Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has refuted reports linking the lawmaker to the controversy surrounding the Kogi West APC Senatorial primary election.
In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Bode Kayode, Chief of Staff to Abejide, described the claims circulating online as “false and malicious.”
Kayode said Abejide had no involvement in the Kogi West APC primary at any point.
“It is an attempt to blackmail him by circulating on social media that he was involved in or trying to switch the names of the candidate,” Kayode stated.
The statement clarified that Abejide is the APC candidate for Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is not an executive of the party at the national level.
“He has no such power to replace a particular candidate or handpick a candidate to fly the party’s Senatorial ticket,” Kayode added.
Kayode also said Abejide maintains good relationships with all stakeholders and has not taken sides or commented on the outcome of any primary elections in Kogi State.
“He is not an enemy to any of the aspirants, so he has no hand in any form of name replacement or primary election result change,” the statement read.
The office urged the public to disregard attempts to smear Abejide’s reputation by linking him to the Kogi West APC primary issues, saying his focus remains on the development of Kogi State, especially Kogi West, and on representing the people of Yagba.
