AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, ENGR. ABBA KABIR YUSUF, EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KANO STATE

Your Excellency,

A Heartfelt Plea for the Reconstruction of the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole Road

I write with deep respect and on behalf of the thousands of citizens residing in Dawakin Kudu and its surrounding communities, to humbly draw your attention to a long-neglected but critical matter—the deplorable condition of the major road linking Dawakin Kudu to Lahadin Makole.

This single road, though now dilapidated beyond description, serves as the lifeline to over 100 villages and hamlets in the area. Over 20 communities lie directly along this route, and for decades, this road has remained the only accessible path for transporting farm produce, accessing health care, and ensuring the movement of people and goods in and out of the region.

Tragically, the condition of the road has led to untold suffering.

In terms of health and emergency response, the state of the road is nothing short of heartbreaking. Pregnant women in labor often lose their lives because ambulances and private vehicles cannot reach the General Hospital in Dawakin Kudu on time. Fire outbreaks become catastrophic events, as emergency services are rendered helpless due to the impassable road. Most disturbingly, innocent lives are lost—not from illness or natural disaster—but from a lack of access and support caused by this failed infrastructure.

From a security standpoint, the situation is just as dire. The road has become a haven for criminals who take advantage of its isolation and poor condition to perpetrate crimes such as armed robbery and motorcycle theft, often leading to the loss of lives. Innocent travelers are left vulnerable, with little hope of rescue or intervention.

During the rainy season, communities such as Dawakin Kudu, Kantsi, Kode, Zogarawa, Tsakuwa, Madawa, Dakatsalle, Busaye, Unguwar Duniya, and Lahadin Makole are completely cut off. Roads become flooded and impassable, cutting off children from schools, farmers from markets, and patients from clinics. It is truly disheartening to witness such suffering in the 21st century.

Your Excellency, this road is not merely a strip of tarmac; it is the economic spine, the health artery, and the security pathway of our people. For more than 50 years, successive administrations have made promises—especially during election campaigns—but none have fulfilled them. The people of Dawakin Kudu have remained hopeful but disappointed.

However, hope has returned with your administration. Your Excellency, you have already earned our appreciation for initiating vital infrastructure projects such as the road rehabilitation from Kwanar Dawaki to Dawakin Kudu and the road from Maiduguri Road through Yankatsari to Mariri. These actions have not gone unnoticed, and they inspire us to believe that you are a man of your word—a governor of the people, by the people, and for the people.

We strongly believe that you are the leader who will finally hear our cries—not just because of political expediency, but because of your genuine concern for the people of Kano State. We believe that if Your Excellency were to personally travel on the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole road, you would be moved by the hardship endured daily by your people. Indeed, as many in our communities say, “Even His Excellency would shed tears upon witnessing the suffering on this road.”

Let it be known that the people of Dawakin Kudu and its neighboring villages will immortalize your name should this road be constructed during your tenure. We will forever remember and honor you by naming this road “Abba Kabir Yusuf Road” as a token of our gratitude.

Your Excellency, we appeal with all humility: Please come to our aid. Please visit us. Please intervene before more lives are lost. We will be honored to welcome you to Dawakin Kudu, and the entire community—young and old, male and female—will come out in numbers to receive you.

We trust in your leadership. We believe in your compassion. And we pray that Almighty Allah continues to guide and strengthen you as you steer Kano State toward justice, development, and prosperity.

Thank you, Your Excellency, for your attention to this heartfelt appeal.

Respectfully,

Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
