COCIN President Admonishes Believers to Place Bible Above Traditions.
Reverend Dr. Amos Monzo, President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), has warned Christians against placing traditions above the Word of God, stating that the Word of God should be placed above any tradition and culture.
He made this statement at the Church of Christ in Nations, Local Church Council (L.C.C1) Nukpis, R.C.C Jos Jarawa, during the funeral service of the late Mama Esther Yakubu Idi Azi, wife of the former Chairman of the Regional Church Council, Jos Jarawa. She passed away at Jos University Teaching Hospital after a protracted illness.
The President also reminded the clergy about retirement, noting that there is retirement from work and permanent retirement, and that their mother had permanently retired. The clergy reminded believers that death is inevitable and rampant, sympathizing with Nigerians, especially the victims of bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State. The President called on Christians to always be security-conscious and condoled with Reverend Yakubu Idi Azi and the entire church over the loss.
In his homily, the Rev. in charge of COCIN L.C.C Shere Hills took his text from 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, with the topic “Understanding God’s Grace during Hard Times”. He said Christians often remember God’s grace during happiness and pleasant times but blame the devil for their agony during hardships. The clergy advised believers to learn from Job, who praised God even after losing his property and children.
The Chairman of the Provincial Church Council Jos, Reverend Dr. Mudimka Seri, reminded believers to prepare for death, which can occur at any time. Reverend Idi Azi, husband to the deceased, said God blessed him with the best wife and companion, thanking all for their sympathy.
The traditional council of Nukpis Village, through the Madaki of Nukpis, Bitrus Abok Kaze, and clergy from far and near, including retired and serving P.C.C and R.C.C chairmen, paid their last respects. Her remains were finally interred at the family burial ground 😊.
