KOGI STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE
CP NAZIRU BELLO KANKAROFI, psc, mni ENGAGES THE NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION DURING STOP-OVER ON INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY RALLY
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, today addressed officials of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) who made a stop at the Command Headquarters Lokoja during their rally to mark the 2025 International Human Rights Day.
While receiving the delegation, the Commissioner of Police appreciated their visit, describing their efforts as timely, purposeful, and essential to strengthening the broader human rights framework within the state. He commended the Commission for its sustained advocacy and reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all persons in line with constitutional and professional standards.
He urged the Commission to continue serving as the _ears and eyes_ of the Command by conducting impromptu visits to Police formations, detention facilities, and other areas of interest. He urged them to promptly draw his attention to any gaps or concerns relating to human rights compliance, noting that such constructive oversight will assist the Command in improving service delivery and reinforcing accountability.
The CP further emphasized the importance of strong synergy between the Police and the National Human Rights Commission, stressing that only positive outcomes can result from a transparent, cooperative, and sustained working relationship aimed at promoting justice, fairness, and the protection of fundamental rights across Kogi State.
Responding, the state coordinator, National Human Rights Commission, Kogi State, Bar Nuhu Mohammed commended the Commissioner of Police for the notable achievements recorded within the short period since he assumed office. He affirmed the Commission’s readiness to work closely with the Command as encouraged by the CP and expressed confidence that the strengthened partnership will contribute meaningfully to improved human rights standards and community trust.
The engagement reflects a renewed commitment to cooperation, accountability, and shared responsibility in advancing the protection of human rights and the overall safety of residents of Kogi State.
