DEMOCRACY DAY: HON. SANNI OLAJIDE CHARGES GOVERNMENT TO END INSECURITY IN OKUNLAND, SAYS DEMOCRACY CANNOT THRIVE WHERE PEOPLE ARE BEING KILLED AND KIDNAPPED
Hon. Sanni Olajide, Kabba Bunu-Ijumu Federal house of representatives candidate under NDC has called on the Federal and State Governments to take urgent and decisive actions to end the growing insecurity affecting Okunland, stressing that democracy loses its meaning when citizens cannot live in safety, peace, and freedom.
In a Democracy Day message, Hon. Sanni Olajide expressed deep concern over the persistent attacks, kidnappings, and killings recorded in parts of Okunland, noting that the primary responsibility of any responsible government is the protection of lives and property.
He stated that democracy is built on the foundation of security, justice, and the confidence of the people, adding that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.
_”Democracy cannot continue to flourish where our people are being killed, kidnapped, and forced to live in fear. The essence of government is to protect the people and guarantee their right to life and liberty,” he said._
Hon. Sanni Olajide urged security agencies to strengthen their presence across vulnerable communities in Okunland, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure that criminal elements are brought to justice.
He further appealed for increased funding and support for security architecture, including collaboration with local vigilante groups and community stakeholders who understand the terrain and can contribute effectively to the fight against insecurity.
While commemorating Nigeria’s Democracy Day, Hon. Sanni Olajide reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the safety, welfare, and progress of the people of Okunland, calling on leaders at all levels to put the protection of citizens above political interests.
