Dr. Olaye Messiah Doupade, a renowned humanitarian activist in the Niger Delta has extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership in signing the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Warri South West LGA, into law. This landmark decision, he emphasized, is a transformative step that solidifies Nigeria’s commitment to maritime education, economic prosperity, and youth empowerment.
Dr Olaye Messiah also thanked Senator James Manager, Senator Joel Onohwakpo,RT Hon Julius Pondi for the laudable role they played in signing the bill into an act of parliament at the green and red chambers of our National Assembly.
. Olaye also hailed the monumental achievement as a victory not for the people of Okerenkoko alone but a national milestone that will elevate Nigeria’s position in the global maritime industry. According to him, the formalization of the university will enhance the nation’s capacity to train top-tier maritime professionals, expand economic opportunities, and reinforce Nigeria’s role in international maritime affairs.
While acknowledging the Pillars Behind the Achievement Dr. Olaye expressed profound gratitude to High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpomupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for his unwavering commitment and sacrifice in ensuring the establishment of the university. He also commended the relentless efforts of Mr Matthew Tonlagha, Chief Engr. Keston Pondi, and
others Who worked assiduously to achieve the milestone .
He emphasized that the personalities mentioned above are distinguished individuals who invested time, resources, and energy to push for this historic moment. Their tireless efforts will forever be etched in the annals of Niger Delta’s progress,” Dr. Olaye stated.
He added: “The signing of the bill into law is a memorable moment for the Okerenkoko people and we will continue to cherish this historic moment in the annals of the Gbaramatu Kingdom.
Dr Olaye Messiah seized the golden opportunity to send warm congratulatory message to
Aketekpe, the Royal Father of Gbaramatu Kingdom, for being a Royal Father whose reign have attracted so much development to the kingdom.
Olaye prayed for a Very long reign of the Aketekpe on the throne as more development are coming to the kingdom in his era.
. He made it clear in his speech that the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, is a national institution / Asset established for the benefit of all Nigerians, particularly the people of the Niger Delta.

Dr. Olaye urged all stakeholders, community leaders, and well-meaning Nigerians to unite in supporting the university’s growth and ensuring that it fulfills its mandate. He called on the Federal Government and relevant agencies to provide the necessary infrastructural and academic support to make the institution a center of excellence for maritime studies.
“The Maritime University, Okerenkoko, is a beacon of hope for our region. It represents progress, empowerment, and the collective strength of our people. We must now focus on building a world-class institution that will stand the test of time,”
