FIDA urges Gov. Ododo to address escalating insecurity in Kogi
The International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA (NIG.) Kogi State Branch has called on Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo to urgently address the escalating insecurity in Kogi State.
The Legal body made the call on Tuesday in a communique jointly signed by it Chairperson, FIDA Kogi State branch, Ajuma Lilian Okolo Esq and Secretary, Kemi Omeiza-Usman, Esq in Lokoja.
This was an aftermath of resolutions made on 12th July 2024 during the opening ceremony of FIDA annual week.
“We the members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA(Nig.)Kogi State chapter are compelled to express our deep concern and alarm at the escalating spate of insecurity in Kogi State.
“The recent surge in violent crimes, kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism has created a climate of fear and uncertainty, threatening the safety of well-being of the Citizens, particularly Women and Children” the communique noted.
The Communique urged the Kogi State Governor to take immediate and decisive action to Strengthen security measures to protect citizens, especially in vulnerable areas, adding that, he should also encourage the investigation and prosecution perpetrators of violent crimes, ensuring justice for victims and their families.
Explaining further, FIDA(Nig)Kogi State Branch said ” We urged the present administration in Kogi State to address the root causes of insecurity including poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.
” They should Collaborate with civil society organizations, like FIDA (Nigeria)Kogi state Branch and other like-minded NGOS to develop effective strategics for conflict resolutions and peace building”.
FIDA also demanded for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to tackle the insecurity plaguing Kogi State, stressing that they cannot afford to allow the situation deteriorate further.
