ABUJA — In a significant political development aimed at consolidating the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of future electoral contests, former local government chairmen from Kano State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office while reaffirming their unwavering loyalty to the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the party’s undisputed leader in Kano State.
The endorsement came from chairmen who served across the 44 local government areas of Kano State between 2014 and 2024 under the administration of Dr. Ganduje. The decision was reached during a strategic closed-door meeting with key APC stakeholders held in Abuja, where party unity, internal cohesion, and long-term electoral strategy were extensively discussed.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State, Alhaji Baffa Takai, said the endorsement of President Tinubu was based on his leadership style, commitment to national reforms, and the inclusive policies of his administration.
“We have carefully assessed the direction of the country under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and are convinced that continuity is necessary to consolidate the gains recorded so far,” Takai said. “Our endorsement is rooted in our belief in his vision for Nigeria and our confidence in his capacity to deliver sustainable development.”
The former council chairmen also used the opportunity to reaffirm their loyalty to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing him as the pillar of the APC in Kano State whose political leadership and grassroots influence remain central to the party’s strength in the state.
“Dr. Ganduje remains our leader in Kano APC,” Takai emphasized. “His contributions to party building, governance, and political stability in Kano are well documented. We stand firmly with him and will continue to draw from his experience and guidance.”
In a show of solidarity, the group further aligned itself with APC stakeholders in Kano under the leadership of Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, commending their efforts in promoting unity, reconciliation, and collective progress within the party. They noted that such collaborative leadership is crucial at a time when internal harmony is needed to reposition the APC for future victories.
The former chairmen called on all APC members across Kano State, regardless of factional affiliations, to close ranks and work together in the interest of the party and the state.
“This is not a time for division,” the group said in a joint statement. “We must come together as one family, promote peace, unity, and mutual respect, and focus on strengthening the APC for the benefit of our people.”
Reaffirming their commitment to the party’s ideals and progressive principles, the former local government chairmen pledged to remain active in mobilization, grassroots engagement, and political advocacy to ensure the APC’s continued dominance in Kano State and beyond.
Observers say the endorsement and renewed declaration of loyalty by the influential bloc of former council chairmen could further solidify the APC’s internal structure in Kano, a key political state whose support often plays a decisive role in national elections.
