Governor Okpebholo Inspects Major Infrastructure Projects, Hails Progress as Testament to Renewed Hope Agenda
Edo State Governor, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday embarked on an extensive inspection tour of key infrastructure projects across Benin City, the state capital, describing them as visible outcomes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
One of the major highlights of the tour was the massive Benin-Asaba expressway expansion. Mr. K. V. Rao, Project Director for Africa Plus Partners and the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited, revealed that approximately 20 kilometers of the dual-carriage, 10-lane expressway are expected to be completed before Christmas 2025.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the pace and scale of work, particularly on the expressway, which he described as a signature project under President Tinubu’s administration.
“This is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. He is taking this road straight to Asaba. It will be 10 lanes, five on each side,” Governor Okpebholo said.
He emphasized the significance of the project, linking it to earlier federal-level interventions:
“When this road was flagged off a few months ago, the Minister of Works, the Minister of Finance, and I were all present. What we’re seeing now is the fruit of that effort, a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
In addition to the expressway, the Governor also inspected the reconstruction of Amufi Road in the Agbor Road axis, which connects four communities: Amufi, Okpagha, Iyanomo, and Egiekpe. This project is expected to improve access and boost local socio-economic activities.
Another stop was at the ongoing flyover construction at Ramat Park, an important urban project expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility within Benin City.
Providing further insights into the Benin-Asaba expressway, Mr. Rao noted: “Palliative work is currently being done to divert traffic to the right-hand side of the road.” He added that full-scale construction will commence on August 5, 2025, and explained the layout: “It will become a 10-lane highway, comprising two main carriageways, two lanes on each side, and two service roads on both flanks.”
Governor Okpebholo’s inspection tour sent a clear message: the Renewed Hope Agenda is already taking physical shape in Edo State, with residents set to benefit from modern infrastructure, improved connectivity, and expanded economic opportunities.
