In a significant breakthrough, the Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with a heinous crime involving homicide and criminal conspiracy. The arrest follows a diligent investigation into the tragic death of 19-year-old Ahmad Abdullahi, which has shaken the local community.
The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Mallam Adamu Aliyu, 37-year-old Mallam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, and 80-year-old Mallam Nafiu Ibrahim, were arrested on February 8, 2025, in Illela town, Sokoto State.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, the trio had conspired to defraud Ahmad Abdullahi of N400,000. When the young victim demanded a refund of his money, the three men lured him to a remote location near the Hadejia River.
The situation took a deadly turn when, in a brutal act of violence, the suspects strangled Ahmad and discarded his lifeless body into the river. After committing the crime, the men fled, crossing the border into the neighboring Niger Republic in a desperate attempt to evade capture.
However, law enforcement officials did not relent. A series of coordinated efforts led to the eventual arrest of the suspects. They were brought back to Jigawa State to face prosecution. SP Adam assured the public that justice would be pursued and confirmed that the case had already been charged to court.
The arrest has been hailed as a triumph for justice in the state, and residents are hopeful that the authorities will ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
In a separate operation, the police made a significant arrest in Hadejia. On February 24, 2025, 18-year-old Ahmed Habibu was apprehended with a stolen motorcycle worth N600,000. The young man had been caught red-handed in possession of the vehicle, and investigations into the theft are ongoing.
Further bolstering the police’s success in recent weeks, a 30-year-old man, Manniru Yusuf, was detained for allegedly attempting to commit homicide. Yusuf had been caught attempting to shoot 50-year-old Ramma Sule with a locally made pistol. Authorities have charged him with attempted murder, and he will face the courts in due time.
Additionally, a remarkable discovery was made in Bariki Quarters, Hadejia.
The police team recovered two locally made rifles, three live rounds of AK-47 ammunition, N36,000 in cash, and a large quantity of rice. These items were abandoned by suspected armed robbers who fled the scene upon seeing a patrol team. While the robbers managed to escape, the police have launched a full investigation to track them down.
The Jigawa State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the ongoing security efforts. With the growing number of arrests and successful operations, there is a renewed sense of optimism that crime will be dealt with swiftly and decisively in Jigawa.
