Jonathan 2027 Bid Gains Momentum as Coalition Appoints National Officers
Strong indications have emerged that former President Goodluck Jonathan may be edging closer to declaring his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential election, following renewed mobilisation efforts by a nationwide support group.
At the end of a strategic meeting held in Abuja, the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan 2027, comprising representatives from across the federation, announced the appointment of its national leadership to drive the movement.
The coalition named Dr. Tom Ohikere, a former Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, as its National President. Mr. Maxwell Egolikoma from Bayelsa State was ratified as Deputy National President, while Dr. Jibril Shehu Mustapha from Jigawa State emerged as National Secretary.
In addition, the group constituted key operational committees, including Media, Finance, and Organising, with Al-Mubarak Muhammed appointed to head the Media Committee.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by its Protem National President, Dr. Ohikere, the coalition disclosed that consultations and groundwork were already in advanced stages to draft the former president into the 2027 race.
The statement further revealed that discussions were nearing completion regarding the political platform on which Jonathan may contest. Members with aspirations to run for offices alongside the former president were urged to remain patient pending his formal declaration.
Following what it described as extensive nationwide consultations, the group stated that there is growing anticipation among Nigerians regarding Jonathan’s next political move.
According to the coalition, many citizens now believe the former president’s leadership between 2011 and 2015 brought stability and progress, adding that there is a renewed call for his return to “rescue and restore hope” in the country.
The group concluded that the moment presents an opportunity for Nigerians to rally behind Jonathan once again, describing it as a chance to rekindle national optimism and chart a new course for the nation.
