Just In: Former Senate President, David Mark Resigns from PDP, Takes Up Coalition ADC Chairmanship
Former Senate President David Mark has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s leadership crisis and internal divisions as reasons for his departure.
In a statement, Mark announced that he has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the interim National Chairman of the coalition-backed party.
In his resignation letter, Mark expressed his commitment to the PDP’s ideals over the years, but lamented the party’s current state, saying it has been reduced to a “shadow of its former self” due to deepening divisions and leadership crisis.
He stated, “I bring warm greetings to you and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otukpo Ward 1, and by extension, to the entire Benue State and Nigeria.”
Mark highlighted his efforts to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the PDP, which he believed helped restore the party to national relevance.
However, he concluded that the party’s current situation made it impossible for him to continue.
He revealed that he has resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, as part of a collective effort to “rescue our nation and preserve our hard-earned democracy.”
This development marks a significant shift in the Nigerian political landscape, with implications for the PDP and the ADC.
The statement concludes with Mark’s formal resignation from the PDP, effective immediately. His decision is likely to have far-reaching consequences for the party and the nation’s politics.
