Kabbascope Magazine Celebrates 40 Years of Community Journalism
By Oke Rotimi and Samuel Temiloluwa – Kabba
Kabbascope, a community newspaper, is marking four decades of serving Kabba and its people. In a message, the publisher reflected on the journey, crediting God for His faithfulness and acknowledging the support of friends, family, and contributors.

The idea of Kabbascope was born out of a University of Lagos assignment, where the publisher’s lecturer, an American, encouraged students to produce a community newspaper. The publisher took up the challenge, and with the help of friends like Professor Jide Jimoh, Kabbascope was launched in 1985.
Over the years, Kabbascope has covered significant events, including the consecration of Cardinal John Onaiyekan by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. The publisher expressed pride in the magazine’s achievements and announced plans to upgrade Kabbascope digitally, launching a website to showcase Kabba’s events 24/7.

The publisher appealed for support to achieve this vision, thanking elders, mentors, contributors, and readers for their loyalty. He also appreciated his wife for her unwavering support.
While Cardinal John Onaiyekan, in a message, urged the publisher to continue doing the good job, saying “I may not know how impactful my publication has done to the Okun world.” He encouraged readers to support the publisher and prayed for everyone’s well-being.

Other speakers at the event includes, Pa J.O Samuel, Mr Oke, former principal St Augustine’s College Kabba, Professor Jide Jimoh of the University of Lagos and others
