Kano State, Nigeria – The Kwanar Dawaki Market in Kano State is on its way to becoming the second Dawanau Market, particularly in exporting food items such as rice to neighboring countries, according to Alhaji Tijjani Abdulkadir Fedeco, the Center Officer of the market.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Democracy Newsline Newspaper at his office recently, Alhaji Fedeco highlighted that the market is already exporting substantial quantities of rice daily to countries such as Niger, Chad, and other parts of West Africa. He stressed that Kwanar Dawaki is quickly gaining recognition as one of Africa’s leading rice markets.
“The market is not only serving Nigeria; people from various West African countries come here to purchase our rice, which is of high quality, and export it to different parts of the world. This has put Kwanar Dawaki Market on the map as one of the best rice-selling markets in Africa,” he stated.
In addition to its prominence in the rice trade, the market has also become a vital source of employment for young people. Alhaji Fedeco noted, “We are providing job opportunities to countless youths, reducing their dependence on government for employment.”
The Center Officer also took the opportunity to appreciate his predecessors for their remarkable achievements in developing the market. He pledged to continue their legacy while introducing new initiatives aimed at further enhancing the market’s growth and boosting Kano State’s internally generated revenue.
Alhaji Fedeco called on the government at all levels to assist the market, particularly the small-scale rice processors, by providing soft loans to support and expand their businesses. He believes such support will significantly contribute to the continued development of Kwanar Dawaki Market as a major hub for rice exports and economic empowerment.
