OPEN LETTER TO THE KANO STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE AND ALL SECURITY AGENCIES ON THE GROWING SECURITY THREATS IN DAWAKIN KUDU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA AND ENVIRONS.

Sir,

With great respect and deep concern, I write this open letter to draw your urgent attention to the alarming and worsening security situation affecting the people of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area and surrounding areas including Kumbotso, Warawa, and Wudil Local Government Areas.

For several months now, our communities have been under severe threat from criminal groups operating along major routes, especially:
1. Dawakin Kudu – Mariri Road
2. Gurjiya – Yankatsare – Jido Axis
3. Mariri – Yargaya – Dawakiji – Gano – Wudil Road
4. Kwanar Dawaki – Dawakin Kudu Axis

These roads have become extremely dangerous, particularly between 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm and 5:30 am – 8:30 am, where countless innocent citizens are being killed, attacked, robbed, or dispossessed of their motorcycles. The fear gripping travelers is unprecedented.

It is heartbreaking that people can no longer move freely between Dawakin Kudu and Mariri, or Mariri back to Dawakin Kudu, without the risk of being:
waylaid, murdered, or robbed of their motorcycles and belongings.

This is no longer an isolated incident. It has become a daily reality, often occurring during daytime, evening hours, early mornings, and especially on market days.

Most tragically, on Wednesday, 2nd December 2025, another motorcycle rider was gruesomely murdered and his motorcycle taken away. This was not an isolated case; it adds to the long list of victims from our communities.

Sir, criminals are exploiting several link roads to commit attacks and escape. These routes include:

1. Dawakin Kudu → Mariri
2. Jido → Yankatsare → Gurjiya
3. Mariri → Kureken Sani
4. Limawa → Yanshana
5. Mariri → Sabon Garin Yankatsari

These routes allow criminals quick entry and exit after committing atrocities. We believe that your visit to these locations will reveal how exposed these communities are.

Although there is a police outpost at Kwanar Dawakin Kudu, it is clear that the current manpower is insufficient. We humbly request the establishment of additional police posts at the following critical locations: In Dawakin Kudu LGA:- Behun, Gurjiya, Jido, and Yargaya while
In Kumbotso LGA, Zara,
Yanshana, and Limawa.

Moreover, we appeal for increased patrols, foot and vehicular surveillance, and rapid response units along the dangerous corridors.

Sir, we sincerely acknowledge your outstanding efforts as one of the most hardworking Commissioners of Police ever posted to Kano State. Your dedication to protecting the lives and properties of Kano citizens is well recognized and appreciated.

It is on this foundation of trust that we make this urgent appeal. To be more vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement, strange persons, or unusual activities to the nearest police station. We strongly advise the public not to take the law into their own hands, but to cooperate fully with legitimate security agencies.

The insecurity along the Dawakin Kudu–Mariri–Gurjiya–Jido axis has reached a crisis level that requires urgent intervention. Lives are being lost, families are grieving, and economic activities are suffering. We implore you, sir, to deploy additional personnel, strengthen surveillance systems, and restore the hope and safety of our people.

We trust in your leadership, experience, and commitment to securing Kano State.

Thank you for your attention and swift action.

Respectfully,

Hon. Bala Salihu
Concerned Citizen, Dawakin Kudu Local Government.
