PAAU Centre of Excellence, Not A Glorified Secondary School – Comr. David Monday, PAAU SUG President Cautions Politicians.

… Says unguarded statement flowing from deficit of knowledge, propelled by improper disposition.

Students of the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, have asked politicians to leave the school out of politics, insisting that “Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) Is Not A Glorified Secondary School”.

The students of the University made the disclosure at a Press briefing by the Student Union Government of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.

Addressing the Press, Comr. David Monday (The President of the Student Union Government) said with the combined efforts of the visitor to the University, Gov. Yahaya Bello, the University Council, University Management, hardworking staff and students of the enviable citadel of learning, the place of Prince Abubakar Audu University as a centre of academic excellence cannot be in contention.

“A State University that has achieved significantly in training of competent manpower working across the globe with a high pedigree in research and community service would not have achieved such glamorous status by an empty, sudden and spontaneous flight to stardom”.

“To make a sweeping and limbless statement labeling such a University as a glorified secondary school, to say the least, is unintelligible, maliciously contrived and a vain pursuit of tainted motives”.

“We as students of this great institution do not respond to frivolities. However, we are constrained to respond to this baseless statement describing Universities in Kogi State as glorified secondary schools (which includes Prince Abubakar Audu University) for the following reasons”.

“Such unguarded statement flowing from deficit of knowledge, propelled by improper disposition may have the potency of dragging the hard earned reputation of our great University to disrepute in the eye of the unsuspecting public”.

“It could equally cast aspersion on thousands of our graduates working across the globe and others who are pursuing their postgraduate programs in Nigeria and abroad”.

“Worse still is the psycho-social effect it may have on our unemployed graduates who are competitively competing for jobs out there”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we as students of Prince Abubakar Audu University, wish to briefly state some reasons why describing PAAU as a glorified secondary school can only flow from defect of reason”.

“A University that has full accreditation status for all its programs on offer by National Universities Commission (NUC) and other professional bodies like Council of Legal Education, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, National Institute for Animal Science, etc, cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University with over one hundred and fifty scholars on Professorial cadre, many of whom serve as resource persons for NUC accreditation for other Universities in Nigeria, cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University with about fifty postgraduate programmes (Masters and Doctorate) cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University with state of the art library, laboratories, and lecture theatres cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University with beautiful serene environment for learning and enviable road network on campus with 24 hours internet facility cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University with state of the art sporting facilities and current champions of Nigeria Higher Institutions Football League cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University whose students are beneficiaries of highly competitive scholarships from the Federal Government, NGOs and individuals cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“A University whose Law graduates consistently produce First Class in the Bar Final examinations for three consecutive times within the last six years cannot be a glorified secondary school”.

“Most importantly, the public may wish to know that PAAU is amongst the twenty-six (26) Universities in Nigeria that have 100% full accreditation status for all her programs by NUC rating. This is not a feat achievable by a glorified secondary school”.

“We as students wish to state that all the achievements are not unconnected with the total support of His Excellency, Alh. (Dr) Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Visitor to the University”.

The students urged the general public not to be misguided and equally ask the perpetrator(s) of this uninformed stands to retract their statement(s) made to the print and/or broadcast media or any other platform.

“Calling PAAU a glorified secondary school can only flow from want of information or deliberate pursuit of unwholesome purpose”, please, leave us out of your politics, the Students of Prince Abubakar Audu University maintained.
