The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has joined eminent Nigerians across the country to celebrate Professor Pat Utomi on the occasion of his 70th birthday, describing him as a true patriot whose life and work embody the enduring ideals of the Nigerian dream.
In a warm and deeply reflective congratulatory message signed by its National Chairman, Ambassador (Dr.) Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, PANDEF extolled the renowned political economist, scholar, entrepreneur and public intellectual for his unwavering commitment to nation-building, ethical leadership and democratic governance.
Ambassador Igali noted that Prof. Utomi’s seven decades of life have been marked by uncommon courage, intellectual rigour and a steadfast dedication to the pursuit of a just, prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
“Professor Pat Utomi stands as one of the most consistent voices of conscience in our national life. His patriotism is not merely rhetorical; it is expressed through decades of scholarship, advocacy, mentorship and principled engagement in the public space,” the statement read.
PANDEF highlighted Utomi’s distinguished academic career, particularly his contributions to political economy and management education, as well as his role in founding the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL), an institution devoted to nurturing ethical and transformational leadership in Nigeria and beyond.
According to the Niger Delta socio-political body, Utomi’s interventions in public policy debates—ranging from economic reforms and restructuring to youth empowerment and governance accountability—have significantly enriched national discourse and offered practical pathways for sustainable development.
The forum praised his courage in consistently speaking truth to power, even when such positions attracted criticism or personal cost. PANDEF described Utomi as a bridge-builder who has always sought to unite diverse interests in pursuit of the common good.
“Through turbulent political transitions and economic challenges, Prof. Utomi has remained resolute in advocating for a Nigeria anchored on values, competence and inclusiveness. He represents the very essence of what it means to believe in the Nigerian dream—an unshakable faith that our country can rise above its limitations and fulfill its vast promise,” PANDEF stated.
The group further acknowledged Utomi’s enduring interest in the development of the Niger Delta and other marginalized regions, noting that his policy prescriptions often reflect a deep understanding of equity, federal balance and resource justice.
As he marks this milestone age, PANDEF described the septuagenarian as an inspiration to younger generations, particularly students, entrepreneurs and civic leaders who look up to him as a model of integrity and excellence.
“Professor Pat Utomi at 70 is not merely a celebration of longevity, but of legacy. His life affirms that patriotism is best expressed through service, sacrifice and steadfast advocacy for the greater good,” Ambassador Igali emphasized.
PANDEF prayed for continued strength, wisdom and sound health for the elder statesman, urging him to sustain his invaluable contributions to national dialogue and reform.
The celebration of Prof. Utomi’s 70th birthday has drawn tributes from across political, academic and civil society circles, underscoring his enduring influence as a thinker, reform advocate and moral voice in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
For PANDEF, however, the tribute carries a deeper resonance: a reaffirmation that the Nigerian dream remains alive in the hearts and labours of patriots like Professor Pat Utomi—men and women who dare to imagine a better nation and dedicate their lives to making it a reality.
