SMEAR, THREATS, AND FALSEHOODS WON’T STOP PROGRESS : WHY SENATOR PAM DACHUNGYANG REMAINS UNDAUNTED
By Eric Dung
Ordinarily, I would have ignored the recent press statement issued under the banner of the Plateau Northern Zone of the PYC, allegedly led by one Samson Chiroma, in which reckless and disparaging remarks were made against the person and office of Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang.
However, silence in the face of deliberate falsehoods is dangerous.
The records must be set straight.
From the very moment Senator Dachungyang emerged as the duly elected Senator representing Plateau North, entrenched interests have relentlessly worked to distract, intimidate, and discredit him.
These efforts have taken the form of coordinated smear campaigns, outright lies, planted commentaries, and proxy attacks, some unfortunately echoed through media platforms.
The recent outburst by a section of the PYC is therefore neither surprising nor intimidating. It follows a familiar and tired script.
What is shocking, however, is that an organisation meant to represent the collective voice and welfare of Plateau youths would allow itself to be hijacked for narrow political vendettas.
It has become increasingly clear that a faction within the Plateau North PYC has reduced itself to a tool for hire, readily deployed by political actors to do the dirty work against perceived opponents.
In this regard, they resemble casual labourers who wait daily at the Gada Biyu flyover for anyone willing to pay for their services.
Yet, even this comparison exposes a moral contrast. The labourers at Gada Biyu earn an honest living through dignity and hard work. Political mercenaries, on the other hand, trade integrity for inducements. In truth, the former possess far greater honour and moral rectitude.
While critics peddle falsehoods, Senator Dachungyang has remained focused on governance and service delivery. The facts are verifiable and speak loudly.
In October 2024, the Senator launched one of the most comprehensive and people-centred empowerment programmes ever witnessed in Plateau North.
About 200 constituents were trained in poultry farming and plantain chips processing. Each participant received 50 litres of groundnut oil, 50 Boilers birds, poultry feeders and drinkers, feed, a frying pan, and ₦50,000 as seed capital to immediately start their businesses.
Consistently, every farming season, the Senator has ensured the distribution of fertiliser to farmers across the zone.
To further address youth unemployment, he completed and commissioned a Skills Acquisition Centre in Riyom Local Government Area, aimed at equipping young people with practical, income-generating skills.
In the area of employment, Senator Dachungyang has facilitated pensionable jobs for numerous constituents in various government agencies.
Beyond this, he continues to push for increased federal placements for Plateau North and has actively assisted many in transferring from the state to the federal civil service.
In a departure from the old politics of exclusion, Senator Dachungyang adopted a broad-based and inclusive approach to appointments. Representation was not only spread across local government areas but deliberately extended to wards within the zone, making him, until recently, the only Senator from Plateau State to do so.
More recently, over 700 constituents across Plateau North benefited from another round of empowerment. One hundred beneficiaries received ₦100,000 each; 500 farmers were given fertiliser; 70 farmers received knapsack sprayers, herbicides, and other inputs; while 22 beneficiaries went home with brand-new special-purpose tricycles.
Education has not been left behind. The Senator paid WAEC fees for students of GSS Kwata in Jos South and GSS Riyom in Riyom LGA. He intervened to settle tuition fees for Plateau North students at the Maritime Academy, Oron.
In addition, he recently paid over ₦16 million to offset school fees for constituents studying at the Aviation College, Zaria.
During the last Christmas season, no politician in Plateau State distributed rice and groundnut oil in quantities comparable to that of Senator Dachungyang.
Photographic evidence of these distributions are in the public domain for all to see.
Let it be made abundantly clear to genuine members of the PYC and the good people of Plateau North , Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang remains firmly committed to the welfare, empowerment, and future of the youth and people of the zone.
No amount of intimidation, mudslinging, or character assassination by political jobbers will distract or derail his vision for a stronger, more prosperous Plateau North.
