Some Perpetrators of Benue Massacre Arrested – CDS Musa
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has announced that security operatives have apprehended some individuals involved in the recent massacre of approximately 200 residents in Yelewata, Benue State.
In an interview with Arise TV, Musa revealed that the police have arrested several suspects and are working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure justice is served.
“The police have arrested a number of people… Investigations are ongoing with the DSS and the police,” he stated.
Musa also shed light on the complexities surrounding the Benue killings, describing it as a mix of terrorism, banditry, land grabbing, reprisal killings, and political manipulation, rather than a simple farmer-herder crisis.
The CDS further highlighted the evolving nature of the insurgency, noting that Boko Haram and ISWAP are now utilizing modern warfare technologies, including drones, and receiving training abroad.
However, he assured that the military has re-strategized and is making progress, with many insurgents taken down.
Musa also emphasized the importance of securing Nigeria’s porous borders, attributing the rise in insurgency to the country’s attractiveness to terrorists and bandits.
He advocated for fencing the borders, saying, “Let us fence our borders… What is money if you are dead? It’s of no use.”
