Farmer Governor Flags Off Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week
Minna, June 16, 2025 –
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has flagged off the 2025 1st Round Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week, as well as the National Immunization Plus Days across the state.
The event was held at the Sen. Idris Ibrahim Kuta Primary Healthcare Centre, Old Airport Road, Minna.
Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, Farmer Governor Bago emphasized the importance of good nutrition in ensuring healthier lives, stronger communities, and a productive state.
He noted that the campaigns on nutrition and immunization are critical to reducing morbidity and mortality rates in the state and align with the New Niger agenda.
The Governor highlighted the state’s commitment to addressing malnutrition and healthcare challenges, citing substantial investments in reforms, policies, and projects aimed at transforming the healthcare system.
He appreciated development partners and donor agencies for their technical and financial support in nutrition and healthcare delivery.
Governor Bago urged mothers, caregivers, and community leaders to take advantage of the activities lined up for the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week, including antenatal screening, family planning, and routine immunization.
The Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, stated that the program aims to reduce maternal mobility and mortality in the state.
The Ministry will provide free medical services, including malnutrition screening, antenatal care, birth registration, and routine immunization.
Representatives from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, World Health Organization, and UNICEF commended the state government’s efforts and pledged their continued support and collaboration in ensuring effective healthcare service delivery.
