The Downfall of APC in Kaduna State: How Leadership Failure and Internal Crisis Under Uba Sani Are Weakening the Party.
By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu Democracy Newsline on 22, January 2026.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State is facing one of the most challenging moments in its political history. Once regarded as a dominant and strategic political force in the North-West, the party is now struggling with declining public confidence, internal disunity, and weak grassroots cohesion. Under the leadership of Governor Malam Uba Sani, the signs of political decline have become increasingly visible, raising serious questions about the future of the APC in Kaduna State.
One of the major reasons for the weakening of the APC in Kaduna State is the absence of clear, decisive, and inclusive leadership under Governor Uba Sani. Leadership is not merely about occupying office; it is about building consensus, maintaining party unity, and inspiring loyalty among party stakeholders.
Unfortunately, many party loyalists believe the current administration has failed to provide a strong political direction that reflects the sacrifices and contributions of party members at all levels.
The perceived disconnect between the government and the party structure has left many APC members feeling sidelined. When party faithful are ignored after elections, frustration grows, loyalty weakens, and internal opposition begins to form. This has contributed to the erosion of trust between the leadership and the party base.
APC’s decline is the alienation of key political stakeholders. Many influential party figures, grassroots mobilizers, and former loyalists feel marginalized in the decision-making process. Politics thrives on inclusion, negotiation, and balance, but the current political atmosphere within the APC in Kaduna State suggests exclusion and favoritism.
When experienced party leaders and loyal supporters are pushed aside, it creates resentment and opens the door for defections, silent rebellion, or political apathy. A party cannot survive when those who built it feel abandoned by those currently in power.
The internal crisis within the APC is perhaps the most dangerous threat to its survival in Kaduna State. The party is increasingly divided into factions driven by conflicting interests, power struggles, and unresolved grievances. Instead of addressing these issues through dialogue and reconciliation, the leadership appears slow or unwilling to act decisively.
Factionalism weakens party discipline, undermines collective goals, and damages the party’s public image. Voters are less likely to trust a party that cannot manage its own internal affairs. If unresolved, these internal conflicts could cost the APC future elections at both state and national levels.
The strength of any political party lies at the grassroots. However, the APC in Kaduna State is steadily losing grassroots support due to unfulfilled expectations, lack of engagement, and growing socioeconomic frustrations. Many supporters feel that the promises of governance have not translated into tangible improvements in their daily lives.
When citizens lose hope in leadership, they withdraw their support, and opposition parties quickly fill the vacuum. This loss of grassroots confidence is a clear warning sign that the APC’s dominance in Kaduna State is under serious threat.
If the current leadership style and internal divisions persist, the APC risks electoral defeat and long-term political irrelevance in Kaduna State. Opposition parties are already capitalizing on the party’s internal weaknesses, while disgruntled APC members may either defect or work against the party from within.
Without urgent reforms, internal reconciliation, and a leadership approach that prioritizes unity and inclusiveness, the APC’s decline may accelerate.
The downfall of the APC in Kaduna State did not happen overnight, nor is it inevitable. However, under the leadership of Malam Uba Sani, the party has struggled with weak political management, internal crises, and declining public confidence. Leadership failure, stakeholder alienation, and unresolved internal conflicts are pushing the party toward a dangerous political crossroads.
Only through sincere internal reforms, inclusive governance, and strategic political rebuilding can the APC hope to regain its strength and relevance in Kaduna State. Otherwise, the current crisis may mark the beginning of the end for the party’s dominance in the state.
