The Kogi West APC ‘Kangaroo’ Press Conference: A Belated, Futile Attempt to Upturn the People’s Mandate
In politics, desperation often wears the mask of defiance. But rarely does it expose itself as comically as it did today in Lokoja. The recent spectacle billed as a “World Press Conference” by a faction of supposed Kogi West All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders serves as a grim reminder that some individuals simply do not know when a battle is lost.
At the heart of this theatrical display is an unrelenting, yet utterly futile, desperation to foist an outsider onto the Kogi West Senatorial District—someone who was completely absent from the democratic crucible of the party’s primary election.
For every rational constituent of Kogi West, today’s press conference was less an administrative briefing and more a source of profound embarrassment. The blatant falsehoods spewed by these self-serving actors did little to elevate their cause; instead, it only diminished whatever political capital they had left.
What we are witnessing is a dangerous brand of “zombie loyalty”—a blind adherence that frantically stabs at the truth to massage the egos of external puppet masters operating from outside the senatorial district. It begs the question: how can anyone justify turning the truth on its head so brazenly?
The facts, however, remain stubborn:
* During the primary election, APC members trooped out in their thousands, voting overwhelmingly for Senator Sunday Karimi. This democratic exercise followed a transparent, high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Executive Governor.
* The returning officer officially declared Senator Karimi the winner in Kabba. In the immediate aftermath, congratulatory messages poured in from all quarters—ironically, including from the very individuals now parading themselves as disgruntled factional leaders.
When democracy triumphed at the polls, the forces of imposition resorted to subterfuge. It remains an open secret that elements within the party attempted a criminal forgery of the primary’s outcome. Fortunately, this desperate gambit could not pass the rigorous scrutiny of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and rightfully collapsed under the weight of its own illegality.
”Truth always triumphs, no matter the obstacles placed in its path.”
It is deeply unsettling to watch individuals who publicly display piety propagate such obvious falsehoods under the guise of party loyalty.
Despite the overwhelming mountain of evidence stacked against them, these supposed leaders continue to proclaim a narrative entirely devoid of truth. One can only ask for mercy upon their souls.
Perhaps the most tragic aspect of this saga is the spiritual hypocrisy on display. These are men of faith who regularly preach that power belongs to God alone and that He gives it to whom He pleases. Yet, in their actions, they are busy trying to play God themselves.
If deceit were a hierarchy, today’s performance proves that the devil now has confirmed seniors walking the political corridors of Kogi West. No matter how many “World Press Conferences” they stage, the mandate of the people has been cast, the NWC has spoken, and the truth remains unshakeable.
