VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE POST OF VICE-CHANCELLOR, PLATEAU STATE UNIVERSITY, BOKKOS

In accordance with the Plateau State University Law No. 4 of 2006, the Governing Council of the University wishes to announce vacancy for the position of ViceChancellor.

By this announcement, applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor.

THE INSTITUTION

The Plateau State University, Bokkos is a broad-based conventional Institution approved by Law and recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Philosophy, Vision and Mission of the University are carefully structured to uphold and practise the tenets of handing down knowledge, diligence, culture and values to enable the citizenry develop an all-round education. The University is conceived as an Institution of higher learning in which staff and students from different backgrounds work together as a team for the realization of a modern secular education blended with high moral standards.

The permanent site of the University is in Butura and Tarangol axis of Bokkos Local Government Area. It showcases the natural endowment of the State, such as scenic beauty, undulating landscape and clement weather, which combine to provide a conducive atmosphere for academic, research and administrative work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Chief Academic Officer of the University, Chairman of the Senate and member of the University Governing Council. He/she shall exercise general supervision over the University and shall be responsible to the Council for maintaining and promoting efficiency and order in the University. It shall also be the duty of the Vice-Chancellor to ensure that the provisions of the Law, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University are observed.

THE CANDIDATE

The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos must possess good University degrees from recognized Universities and should be of impeccable integrity and a good manager of human and material resources. Specifically, the candidate is expected to:

1) Be a highly distinguished scholar of the rank of Professor of not less than Ten

(10) years experience on the rank.

2) Have a wide administrative experience; understand contemporary demands of leadership and in touch with dynamics of modern University administration to be capable of providing vision and direction towards sustainable growth and development of the University.

3) Be one with high scholastic and academic credentials who must have outstanding accomplishments in academic and in public life generally. The candidate must also have a subsisting teaching or research position in a University, and should not be more than 64 years of age as at the time of this advert.

4) Command both national and International respect, particularly in the academic world to enhance the good reputation of the University and attract scholarship.

5) Be a person who is not likely to foster personal, racial, ethnic, political, religious, or other sectional interests.

6) Exhibit entrepreneurial drive and ability to attract the much needed funds and mobilize other resources.

7) Be free from any form of financial embarrassment. 8) Be of good health and pleasant/strong personality.

9) Be a courageous and assertive person who can take decisions on the merit of faith and principles and not on the basis of pressure from individuals or groups.

10) Have not suffered any conviction (i.e. he/she should not be an ex-convict).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE APPLICABLE TO THE POST

The Vice-Chancellor shall hold Office for a single non-renewable term of five (5) years only on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment. The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of ViceChancellor in Nigerian University System and as may be determined by the Governing Council of the University from time to time.

MODE OF APPLICATION

a) Each application should be made in thirty-five (35) copies (with a soft copy) and be accompanied by thirty-five (35) copies of candidate’s Curriculum Vitae duly signed and dated, indicating the following:

i) Full name (surname first in capital letters) ii) Date and place of birth iii) Nationality and state of origin iv) Marital status

v) Number of children and dates of birth vi) Institutions attended with dates

vii) Academic and professional qualifications obtained with dates (enclose photocopies of certificates)

viii) Areas of specialization and sub-specialization ix) Present job status, description and salary

x) Current contact address and phone number(s); and functional e-mail address.

xi) Permanent home address xii) Work experience and date(s) xiii) Conferences, seminars and workshops (locally and/or internationally) attended with dates

xiv) Publications xv) Names and addresses of three (3) Referees xvi) Date available for duty (if appointed) xvii) Any other relevant information

b) Candidates should also enclose their vision for the University in not more than 2,000 words.

c) Each application should include the names and addresses of three (3) Referees, who should be able to attest to the candidate’s standing and abilities professionally, managerially as well as moral rectitude. One of the referees must be from the candidate’s place of work. Each referee must be contacted by the Applicant to forward, direct to the Pro-Chancellor & Chairman of Council, the confidential report in a properly sealed envelope marked, POST OF VICECHANCELLOR REFEREE REPORT at the top left hand corner of the envelope.

d) All applications shall be submitted under confidential cover, sealed and addressed to:

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

 

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Plateau State University, Bokkos.

A. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must possess the following

1. A good First Degree in a relevant area of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering

2. A Master’s Degree in relevant discipline

3. Membership of the Computer Registration Council of Nigeria or equivalent.

4. Professional Certifications from at least any two (2) professional bodies.

5. Candidates should have at least Ten (10) years relevant experience in Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

 

 

B. THE ROLE

The Director of ICT shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for:

1. The effective implementation, operation and management of the University’s ICT infrastructure, systems and services ensuring they are fit for the delivery of a robust and cost-effective technology solutions to meet the growing and dynamic needs of a multi-user/complex community.

2. The Director will lead in the development and execution of the University’s strategic plans and goals, meeting the requirements of the academic units, management and service departments, Staff; and particularly the students to ensure the University benefits from the competitive advantages that ICT has to offer.

3. The Director of ICT will report to the Vice-Chancellor to create an effective IT driven University that is cohesive, forward-looking, service-oriented, and keenly focused on the changing needs of the University.

4. The person to be appointed must demonstrate broad and in-depth knowledge and hands-on-experience in successfully managing complex ICT infrastructure, systems and applications.

5. He/She must demonstrate high level of credibility, honesty, initiative and commitment.

6. The person will provide leadership within the ICT team and other units of the University and must be able to lead, organize, supervise, motivate and work as part of a team.

 

 

7. He/She must also demonstrate extensive and in-depth knowledge of the University system.

 

 

C. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The general conditions of service are as obtainable in the Nigerian University System. The appointment is for a single term of five (5) years only and as may be determined by the Governing Council of the University from time to time.
