A prominent Kano traditional title holder, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, has strongly criticized comments attributed to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso regarding the alleged withdrawal of security personnel attached to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, Dan Agundi dismissed Kwankwaso’s remarks as baseless and lacking constitutional or legal authority, describing them as “no more meaningful than idle talk at a tea seller’s table.”
“Kwankwaso, who are you to suggest that security personnel should be withdrawn from the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero?” Dan Agundi asked. “You do not have the power, the authority, or the legal standing to make such a call.”
“No Authority Whatsoever”
Dan Agundi stated categorically that Senator Kwankwaso has no jurisdiction or constitutional role that allows him to advise or demand the withdrawal of security operatives from the Nassarawa Palace, the official residence of the Emir.
He further stressed that even the Governor of Kano State, by law, does not possess unilateral authority to remove the Emir’s security detail.
“This matter is already before a court of law,” he said. “So in what capacity is Kwankwaso speaking? On whose authority?”
Security Granted by the Court.
According to the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, the security arrangement protecting Emir Aminu Ado Bayero was granted by a competent court of law, not by political actors or the state government.
“It was the court that ordered security protection for the Emir, not the government and certainly not any individual politician,” Dan Agundi emphasized.
He argued that any attempt to politicize the issue undermines the rule of law and risks inflaming tensions in the state.
“Like Street Gossip”
Dan Agundi concluded by reiterating that Kwankwaso’s statement should not be taken seriously, likening it to casual, uninformed street gossip.
“That is why I said his comment is like the talk you hear at a tea seller’s table,” he said. “If Kwankwaso does not understand this, he should know that even people without any official position cannot just wake up and order the withdrawal of police officers.”
Background
The Kano Emirate has been at the center of political and legal controversies in recent times, following disputes over traditional authority, governance, and security arrangements. The matter remains under judicial consideration, with stakeholders repeatedly urging restraint and respect for court decisions.
Observers warn that inflammatory political statements could worsen tensions and distract from legal processes already underway
