Byuan Links Rising Insecurity to 2027 Political Tensions

The Executive Director of Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Dr. Matthias Byuan, has attributed the growing insecurity in Nigeria to political maneuverings ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, November 25th, 2025, at the unveiling of the Empower Her Project and the inauguration of state coordinators of the Northern Nigeria Christian Women for Asiwaju (NNCWA), held at the Dr. Mariam Babangida Centre for Women Development in Abuja, the APC chieftain said the pattern of insecurity worsening before major elections is not new in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“We witnessed it during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, and even during Buhari’s tenure, insecurity escalated months before presidential elections,” Byuan said. “So, it is not a new development.”
The Benue State governorship aspirant alleged that opposition elements have historically exploited insecurity as a tactic to discredit incumbent administrations, adding that the country’s current security challenges are tied to political positioning ahead of 2027.
Byuan urged Nigerians to remain calm and ignore what he described as “scaremongering,” assuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working relentlessly to safeguard lives and property across the country. He appealed for continued support for the president’s 2027 re-election bid.
Commending the Empower Her Project, Byuan applauded the initiative’s chairperson, Hon. Tabitha Illiya, noting that the programme aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in promoting women’s empowerment, financial inclusion, and participation in decision-making.
He further pledged the support of the Federal Housing Authority in ensuring women are prioritized in its affordable housing programmes nationwide.
Byuan also praised Hon. Illiya for convening the Northern Nigeria Christian Women for Asiwaju, describing the group as a committed body supporting President Tinubu’s re-election while praying for national peace and the success of the administration.
