Faleke Group Warns Alfred Bello to Cease “Defamatory and Inciting Statements” Or Face Legal Action
ABUJA — The media office of Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, has issued a “stern and final warning” to Hon. Alfred Bello to immediately stop what he described as a campaign of “calumny, defamation, and character assassination.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 by the Media Office of Hon. Faleke, the lawmaker’s office accused Bello of using various media platforms to spread “false, malicious, and inciting narratives” against the House Finance Committee Chairman.
According to the statement, while Faleke’s team initially dismissed Bello’s remarks as “mere political antics,” his recent escalating comments have “crossed the line of acceptable political engagement.”
The statement singled out Bello’s recent call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “call Hon. Faleke to order,” alleging that the lawmaker was orchestrating a crisis in Kogi State.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the statement read, “it is both baffling and ironic that while Hon. Bello is busy crying wolf, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is busy maintaining a highly cordial and productive relationship with Hon. Faleke.”
Hon. Faleke’s office described the allegations as “unsubstantiated fallacies he knows to be entirely fabricated.”
The statement defended Faleke’s record in Kogi State, referring to him as the “Okun Star” and “Kogi’s Jewel.” It cited his contributions including “extensive free healthcare outreaches, critical road infrastructure, water and electricity supplies, construction of traditional palaces, and widespread philanthropic interventions” across Okunland and the wider state.
“Hon. James Abiodun Faleke is a leader in whom the majority of the Okun people and Kogites are well pleased. His focus remains on development, not distraction,” the statement said.
It also questioned Bello’s approach at a time when “the leadership of the APC is preaching peace, unity and reconciliation within the party,” accusing him of an “entitlement mentality—one that selfishly seeks to subsume collective progress under personal ambition.”
The Media Office warned that Bello no longer “has the liberty to use Hon. Faleke’s name as a stepping stone or a target for malicious falsehoods.”
“Enough is enough. The good people of Kogi State know their true leaders. Political entrepreneurs who survive by fanning the embers of discord are hereby warned: it will no longer be business as usual,” the statement said.
It added that should Bello continue with “defamatory tirades against Hon Faleke or denigrating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he should “be fully prepared to answer for his actions and face appropriate, stringent legal consequences in a court of law.”
The statement concluded: “A word, they say, is enough for the wise!”
Attempts to reach Hon. Alfred Bello for comments were not successful as of press time.
