Governorship election:
Kogi West Elders Forum Set To Adopt A Candidate, Dissolves Committee

Emmanuel kehinde,Ilorin

The Kogi West Elders Forum (KWEF), says it is set to adopt one of the candidates contesting the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state.

According to KWEF, the candidate to be adopted will be one of those contesting the governorship election from Kogi West senatorial district .

Dr Tunde Arosanyin, stated this on behalf of the forum in a statement obtained by our correspondent, on Saturday.

KWEF, is a body of highly reputable men and women of proven integrity from the Western Senatorial District of Kogi State.

“The forum is closing up on a choice of one candidate that will be adopted by the senatorial district, ” Arosanyin said.

He said the KWEF held its meeting in Abuja on Tuesday,12th September 2023 where members further reiterated the resolve, dating back 2015 to advocate for power to rotate to the West senatorial districts

Consequently, the statement said the Forum at the meeting decided to dissolve all internal committees to enable the KWEF take a final decision on which candidate to adopt and support for the election.

“It will be recalled that The Forum had set up relevant committees to interface with critical stakeholders across the state’s three senatorial districts to determine who is more acceptable in terms of suitability, reach, and character, among others, to all the zones.

“Arising from the meeting, the forum reiterates that it has worked assiduously since 2015 to advocate for power to rotate to the west senatorial district of Kogi State after the tenure of the incumbent governor, who comes from Central senatorial district.

“It is to the credit of the internal committee set up by KWEF that appropriate reports were turned in to address these areas.

“While thanking the committees for their commitments and job well done, the forum hereby dissolves all committees to enable it to take a common position in subsequent meetings.

“It is important to note that narrowing to a candidate is ongoing, and relevant organs of the KWEF will be briefed at a meeting to be convened soon.

“During the past interactions with the candidates, the forum appealed to them to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship in accepting the eventual choice of the forum for the benefit of our people.

“Furthermore, the forum emphasised that even though all the candidates are eminently qualified for the number one position of the state, only one person can occupy the revered seat at a time.

“The forum, therefore, uses this opportunity to further appeal to the two senatorial districts of Central and East of the state to close rank with the West in its quest to promote the unity of the state through equity, fairness and justice,” Arosanyin explained.
