A large crowd of supporters, political stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders, and community members gathered in Zuru, Kebbi State, on Saturday to celebrate the official defection of the Senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The event, which took place in Zuru Local Government Area, was widely described by participants as a significant political development ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Supporters from across the Zuru and Yauri Emirates attended the ceremony, expressing optimism that Senator Maidoki’s entry into the ADC would strengthen the party’s presence across Kebbi South and beyond.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Senator Maidoki explained that his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) followed extensive consultations with his supporters, political associates, traditional communities, and residents throughout the Zuru and Yauri Emirates. According to him, many people repeatedly appealed to him to join the ADC, believing it provides a platform that better reflects their aspirations for effective leadership and development.
He announced that he intends to contest again for the Kebbi South Senatorial seat under the banner of the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 general election.
In a symbolic moment during the ceremony, Senator Maidoki asked the thousands of supporters in attendance whether they supported his decision to join the ADC. The crowd responded with loud cheers and overwhelming approval, demonstrating what organizers described as strong grassroots backing for his political future.
The reception turned into a celebration of unity, with party faithful pledging to work together to build a stronger ADC across Kebbi State. Speakers at the event encouraged residents, especially young people and women, to participate actively in democratic processes and to support leaders they believe will promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive development.
Many supporters who spoke during the gathering argued that Kebbi State, particularly the Kebbi South Senatorial District, continues to face serious development challenges. They expressed concern over persistent insecurity in some communities, saying that farmers and rural residents often seek greater protection for their lives and livelihoods. They also called for improved investment in healthcare services, noting the need for better-equipped hospitals, more medical personnel, and increased access to quality healthcare, especially in rural areas.
Participants further voiced concerns about education, stating that many schools require improved infrastructure, learning materials, and qualified teachers to prepare young people for future opportunities. Some also appealed for greater fairness, equal opportunities, and impartial administration of justice, expressing the hope that every citizen, regardless of social or political background, should be treated equally before the law.
Supporters maintained that these concerns should remain central issues in future political campaigns and governance, urging all elected representatives to focus on policies that improve security, expand educational opportunities, strengthen healthcare delivery, create employment, and promote justice for every community across Kebbi South.
The event concluded with renewed commitments from ADC members and supporters to expand the party’s grassroots structures throughout Kebbi State in preparation for the 2027 elections. Organizers described the gathering as not merely a political reception but a call for renewed hope, accountable leadership, sustainable development, and people-centered governance.
For many attendees, Senator Garba Musa Maidoki’s defection marked what they believe is the beginning of a new political chapter for Kebbi South Senatorial District. They expressed confidence that the coming years will offer an opportunity for constructive political engagement focused on addressing the developmental challenges facing the region and improving the welfare of its people.
