Niger State Agency for Green Initiatives (NGSAGI) in Collaboration with relevant MDAs, commences Its Engagement Meeting with FutureCamp, Germany with a Virtual Kick-Off Workshop
The Niger State Agency for Green Initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change, and other sister MDAs has commenced one day kick-off workshop meeting with the FutureCamp Germany, an expert for climate, sustainability, energy, environment and innovation engaged by the Government of Niger State as International Consultant on Carbon Market Activation.
The kick-off workshop organized by the FutureCamp is one of the major activities of the ground-breaking actions, intended to provide an opportunity for a meet-and-greet as well as foster familiarization between FutureCamp and relevant officials of Niger State Government.
The workshop is also expected to set the tone of the project implementation and provide a basis for clearly defining the project goals, expected outputs, outcomes, timeline and deliverables into meaningful context.
FutureCamp during the meeting made technical submissions on carbon market activities and green economy, carbon market activation framework in Niger state, as well as carbon market project roadmap for the State.
The Government of Nigeria is a Party to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and a signatory to the convention mechanisms including the Paris Agreement and by extension, Niger State Government led by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the State Government will be participating at the Conference of Parties (COP29) event in Baku, Azerbaijan. These events are scheduled at the Baku International Stadium, Azerbaijan between November 11th – 22nd, 2024.
At the conference in Baku, the Niger State Government would be expected to follow up with a series of engagements and MOU signed following the COP28 in Dubai, as well as participate in other side meetings with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, Global Environment Facility, and Global Climate Fund, etc. The 2024 COP29 event will also provide opportunities for the state to network with potential NGOs and investors on carbon markets and showcase Niger State’s ambitious plan towards greening with vast economic potential, and benefits as well as contribution towards Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and Net zero emission.
