Niger State Government Partners with NGOs to Boost Agriculture
The Niger State Government has announced a strategic partnership with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to enhance agricultural development in the state. Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago revealed this during a meeting with the “Nourishing Nigeria Project” team at the Government House in Minna.
The Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector to achieve positive results. He noted that such partnerships can leverage expertise, resources, and innovative approaches to boost productivity, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable practices.
Governor Bago commended the “Nourishing Nigeria Project” for selecting Niger State as one of its pioneering states, aligning with the state government’s agenda for developing school farms across the state. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for championing agricultural development.
The Governor assured the team that his government would match each demonstration farm implemented by the project with ten more. He also expressed readiness to utilize the state’s natural and human resources to develop women and children.
The National Project Coordinator of the “Nourishing Nigeria Project,” Nuhu Adamu Kilishi, commended Governor Bago’s efforts towards food security, which led to Niger State being chosen as one of the four pioneer states for the project. The project aims to engage children and women in schools and households in cropping nutrient-rich crops, fish farming, and poultry.
Kilishi also mentioned another project, “Accelerated Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN 2.0),” a World Bank-assisted project to be implemented in 21 states, including Niger State, focusing on crop and animal production, livestock, and fisheries.
