NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT TO WORK CLOSELY WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL LIVESTOCK REFORMS COMMITTEE TO ACHIEVE SET OBJECTIVES.
Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago said his administration will continue to work closely with the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee in order to achieve the set objectives the Committee was constituted for.
Farmer Umaru Bago stated this during the stakeholders consultative workshop organized by Niger State Government in collaboration with the Presidential Livestock Reforms Committee held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre Minna.
He expressed optimism that the stakeholders engagement workshop will afford opportunities on how to maximize the potentials in the livestock industry adding that, Niger State Government is already leading in the livestock Industry as it targets to compliment the sector in realizing the food sovereignty for the Nation.
The Co-Chairman, Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega in his presentation apppreciated Farmer Governor Bago whom he described as an exemplary leader that should be emulated because of his tremendous efforts in the agricultural sector.
Prof. Jega said the primary goal of the Committee is to deliver a livestock sector that is reformed, resilient, and sustainable to compete globally saying, the workshop will afford stakeholders opportunity to deliberate on recurrent challenges facing the sector and generate ideas that will be useful to the Committee in terns of guiding the President to expand the scope of the livestock reforms.
Chairman Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun in his address said Niger Foods which was set up to develop agriculture in the State has been doing remarkably well in the livestock sector and disclosed that the Organisation is lobbying the Government to set up an animal welfare policy that will effect the ban on manhandling of Animals adding that such policy will bring about an exclusive economy.
Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs,Umar Sanda Rabe said the concept behind the creation of the Ministry is to address all impediments associated with pastoralists, stating that, the State has a congregation of 2.2 million cows while adding that the Ministry has also registered cattle breeders and farmers in the State to fast track livestock development in terms of planning.
The event was highly interactive as stakeholders engaged in sharing of ideas, recommendations and making suggestions on addressing grey areas.
