The importance of youth involvement in agriculture was celebrated today as Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho continued the weeklong training and empowerment programme designed to equip young people with practical skills and start-up capital to thrive in the agricultural sector. This initiative shows Senator Echocho’s dedication to creating lasting opportunities for youth, and focusing on a sustainable future through agriculture.
The programme attracted a spirited gathering of young people from across Kogi East, all eager to explore the potential of agriculture as a pathway to financial independence and a means to address key issues of hunger and food security. Dr. Samuel Ay Ameh’s powerful presentation highlighted agriculture’s vast potential and emphasized its vital role in creating jobs, producing raw materials, and generating capital; all of which significantly boost the economy at both state and national levels.
Dr. Ameh encouraged the youth to embrace profitable areas of agriculture, including crop production, livestock farming, forestry, and aquaculture, noting that by investing in these fields, young people could secure their financial futures while building a stronger, food-secure Nigeria.
Comrad Ibrahim Ahmodu, another legislative aide, encouraged participants to utilise the funds wisely, while emphasising that this programme marked a turnaround for them. He noted, “It is in the 9th and 10th Senate under the distinguished Senator Echocho that I have seen a senator truly empower his constituents.” Akiti also shared the senator’s recent achievements and encouraged participants to continue supporting Senator Echocho’s impactful work.
Alhaji Danlami Garba, Senior Legislative Aide, voiced his confidence in the programme’s potential, urging participants to make full use of their new skills and the start-up capital provided. In his words “the knowledge and resources shared here can transform lives and uplift entire communities,” he noted.
Additional support came from Usman Abuh, former State Youth Leader of the PDP, who offered his prayers for Senator Echocho’s continued success. Mr. Ogwu Solo, former State PRO of the PDP, also expressed his appreciation, stating, “This initiative is unprecedented in our district’s history. Senator Echocho’s commitment sets a new standard for youth empowerment in Kogi East.”
This training programme stands as a testimony to the vital role of agriculture in driving economic growth and addressing youth unemployment. By equipping young people with the tools to succeed, Senator Echocho is laying the groundwork for economic independence and food security across Kogi East. This initiative marks a significant step forward for the district and a transformative moment for each participant.
