In a recent media parley held in Abuja, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed doubt about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s chances of securing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Wike asserted that Nigerians had already assessed Atiku’s political blueprint in the 2023 elections and had decisively rejected it.
Wike said, “Did he (Atiku) not present it (blueprint) before Nigerians? Did Nigerians choose him?” According to him, the Nigerian electorate had spoken clearly in 2023, signaling a lack of support for Atiku’s vision.
Wike questioned the viability of Atiku’s prospective candidacy, suggesting that the party might not rally behind the former Vice President once more.
Atiku, who recently reflected on the nation’s challenges, had mentioned that he would have taken a different approach from the current administration under President Bola Tinubu, implying that the level of hardship faced by Nigerians today might have been avoided. Despite these criticisms, Wike argued that Atiku’s opposition and proposals do not equate to substantial political alternatives for Nigerians.
