Titcombe College Old students reunite, calls for improved security in Nigeria schools

The 1980 Set of Titcombe College, Egbe, held a reunion get together in Ilorin on Saturday October 4th, and called for improved security measures to protect students in the country.

The Chief Administrator of 1975-1980 set of TC Old Students, Prince Emmanuel Oladimeji made the call while speaking to journalists on need to protect students amidst insecurity tension ravaging the country.

Oladimeji said government and education stakeholders must ensure students safety are prioritized.

According to him, government must double its efforts to provide adequate security measures for students safety.

” Protect our children, upgrade the security personnel of the schools and ensure the environment is safe and condusive for learning.

” Well equipped security men must be on ground to man the school perimeters, hostels, classrooms, staff quarters and the entrance.

” There is need to work collectively to tackle the insecurity. The Alumni, School management, communities where schools are located must cooperate with the government to protect the children,” he echoed.

He commended the efforts of the Titcombe College Egbe Old Students Association (TCEOSA) for their contributions towards the college progress.

Oladimeji, however called for continuous collaboration by the Alumni to ensure they gave back to the school.

He also disclosed that TCEOSA has a total of 22 teachers on their employ to support the school.

” TCEOSA has exceeded N30,000,000 cash in national treasury to pay teachers salary in the next Five years.

” We the 1975-1980 set are celebrating the 45th year of exit from TC. No member of our set is less than 60 years old today.

” We owe posterity the duty of giving back continuously to our Alma mata. The school made us and we pledge to give back always,” he said.

On his path, Dr Tunde Arosanyin, the Chairman of the 2nd Re-Union Planning Committee of TC old students 75-80 set, said the purpose of the re-union was to identify with the school that made them.

Arosanyin said the 75-80 set converged to chat way forward for the school and better the students output.

He said the Old students have been supportive and giving back to the school by building a well equipped clinic, renovation of the class room, reconstruction of exam centers, student hostels, staff quarters among others.

The Chairman also urged government to improve teachers welfare by paying them motivational stipends to boost their moral.

” When teachers are well paid, they will focus on their job and stop engaging in extra curricular activities,” he said.

He also urged parents to instill discipline in their children and stop over pampering them.

The Principal, Titocombe College Egbe, Mr John Olugbenga-Ajayi commended the old students for their support and investment in ensuring the school remain the best.

The Principal who was represented by his Vice Principal Academics, Mr Abiodun Olugbenga described TCEOSA as backbone of the college progress.

He said there has been a marked improvement in student character and attitude towards studies.

According to the principal, the level of truancy has drastically reduced which reflects the positive impact of disciplinary and mentorship programs.

He said the students have consistently performed well in external examinations and became responsible.

The principal assured and and vow that his team will elevate the college to world standard.
