Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on Tuesday faced an unexpected public backlash in Ganye Local Government Area as aggrieved supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) openly booed and rejected him during a political gathering.
The incident occurred during the governor’s visit to the area to inspect projects executed by the Ganye Local Government Council and address party supporters. Fintiri had only recently returned to the state after spending nearly two weeks away attending the graduation ceremony of the son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Eyewitnesses said the atmosphere quickly turned hostile as the governor attempted to speak. A video from the event, which has since gone viral on social media, captured voices from the crowd chanting, “We are not with you! We reject you and your party!” Some hecklers openly vowed to withdraw their support for the PDP, signaling deep frustration among party loyalists.
Visibly unsettled by the outburst, Governor Fintiri responded sharply to the crowd, dismissing their protest. “You are also rejected. Who even asked for your support in the first place? Nobody has the monopoly of being troublesome; anyone can wear the cap,” he said, further inflaming tensions at the gathering.
The confrontation comes against the backdrop of growing public dissatisfaction with the state government, particularly over perceived misplaced spending priorities and the worsening security situation in parts of Adamawa State. Concerns have been especially pronounced in Madagali Local Government Area—Governor Fintiri’s home LGA—where renewed attacks by Boko Haram insurgents have continued to unsettle residents.
Recent reports indicate that eight members of a single family were abducted by suspected Boko Haram fighters in the Pallam community of Madagali, following the killing and abduction of forest guards in nearby Kirchinga. The incidents have intensified criticism of the government’s handling of security challenges in the area.
Several prominent PDP figures present at the Ganye event, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the public rejection of the governor as a serious warning ahead of future elections.
“The governor has built a castle of self-adoration around himself, surrounded by praise singers who shield him from reality,” one party insider said. “What happened today shows that reality has finally caught up with him. He is clearly losing ground.”
Another senior party member echoed similar sentiments, noting that the incident could be a turning point. “What happened in Ganye is a litmus test of what lies ahead. I hope the governor now understands that the people are no longer with him,” the source said.
The Ganye incident underscores the growing cracks within the ruling PDP in Adamawa State and highlights increasing public anger that may shape the state’s political landscape in the coming months.
